Active Imaging Analysis via Ellipsoidal Projections

Abstract

Most active imaging systems, regardless of their beam forming approach, can be analyzed using ellipsoidal projections and ellipsoidal backprojections. Also, high quality, real-time 3D imaging is possible using ellipsoidal backprojection with defocused transmitted pulses. This paper shows that because conventional active imaging systems can be analyzed in terms of ellipsoidal analysis, ellipsoidal backprojection imaging machines can therefore be understood in terms of conventional imaging systems. Consequently, their point spread functions and sidelobe structures are similar. A basic example is given demonstrating this.
