Abstract
Low grade B cell lymphomas of mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) are a discrete group of malignancies occurring most commonly at mucosal sites which are normally devoid of lymphoid tissue.1 These sites have been shown to acquire reactive lymphoid tissue resembling normal MALT seen in the Peyer‘s patch of the terminal ileum1,2 before or at the onset of lymphoma development. Several characteristic features such as the persistence of follicular dendritic cells, the presence of reactive follicles and a range in cellular morphology within these ‘MALT-type lymphomas suggest that they may arise in the course of an immune response to antigen.1,3
