Abstract

Cigarette smoking and intemperance in the use of alcohol cause many medical problems to modern society, the importance of which can be evaluated by the analysis of both scientific and journalistic papers. Over 30 per cent of young men have problems with alcohol (Victor 1983). In addition, many subjects are also habitual smokers. Genetic factors associated to psychological and sociocultural behaviour may characterize the beginning of drinking (Naij 1960). Therefore, habits and attitudes towards smoking and drinking should be better analysed especially in young people. The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between smoking habit and alcohol consumption in boys who attended school in our area.
