Interactions of Neurotransmitters and Endothelial Cells in Determining Vascular Tone

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 381))

Abstract

My interest in research on the cardiovascular system began in 1948. I had joined the Department of Physiology at the Queen’s University of Belfast with the title of “Demonstrator”,indicating that my responsibilities were to supervise the practical classes. This provided a paid opportunity to spend one year preparing for the basic science section of the examinations to qualify as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
