The Corneal Effects of 2-(2-Nitro-4-Trifluoromethyl-Benzoyl)-Cyclohexane 1,3-Dione (NTBC) in the Rat

  • Chapter

Abstract

2-(2-Nitro-4-trifluoromethylbenzoyl)-cyclohexane-1,3-dione (NTBC) is atriketone which was originally discovered at the Western Research Centre of Zeneca Ag Products (Prisbylla et al., 1993). The purpose of this paper is to report and describe the ophthalmoscopic and histopathological changes in the cornea of rats when dosed orally with this compound by gavage and to compare them with the changes described by Burns et al. (1976) when rats are dosed with 5% tyrosine in a low protein diet.
