Abstract

The treatment and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers have been essentially limited until recently to decreasing the concentration of luminal gastric acid or inhibiting acid secretion. In these cases the erosions and ulcers were essentially left alone to heal themselves in the presence of diminished aggressive factors, but without any attempt of stimulating the healing process.
