Abstract
Acrylamide is a neurotoxic vinyl monomer whose effects have been characterized as similar to those of organic solvents (Tilson, 1981). Only the monomer is considered to be neurotoxic and this form of acrylamide is used to separate solids out of solutions (flocculent), as grouting agent, and as a paper or cardboard strengthener. It is also used in photography, adhesives, metal coatings, algicides, and bactericides (Tilson, 1981).
