Abstract
It is now increasing recognized that the geometry of many natural objects are self-similar on many spatial scales. The geometric pattern formed by the branching pattern of trees and rivers, the surface relief of landscapes, the geometric form of clouds, and other fractal forms in nature, appears to be independent of the scale at which it is viewed (Mandelbrot, 1982; Feder, 1988).
