The Statistics of Natural Resources and the Law of Pareto

  • Chapter
Fractals in Petroleum Geology and Earth Processes

Abstract

By preparing their second collection of papers, Christopher Barton and Paul La Pointe have again earned the gratitude of all the geologists and of all the students of fractals. Not only do I continue to belong to this second group, but I have long had a strong interest in petroleum geology. Therefore, I have two separate and equally strong reasons for welcoming this volume.

When this paper was first prepared in 1962, the author had not yet joined Yale, and was at Harvard University on leave from a position at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center.
