Abstract
The concepts of Software Reengineering has been in the IT industries for over two decades. In developing countries, automated case tools and products for process and/or data reengineering are rapidly finding widespread applications in program restructuring and database reengineering (DBRE). In Hong Kong, reengineering of software applications and its databases are still yet to be grown more mature and popular. The objectives of this paper is to present the finding of a pioneer survey of DBRE for data interoperability. The objectives of the survey is to identify the current status, needs of data reengineering for database interoperability in Hong Kong while presenting the current available reengineering technologies, the shortcoming of the database reengineering tool and some insight toward the trend of the development in this research area.
