Evaluating Other Theories

  • Chapter
Self-Awareness & Causal Attribution

Abstract

The Basic Dynamics of dual systems theory and its extensions have been discussed. Now is the time to consider the relationship between this approach and other relevant positions. We will begin with Carver and Scheier’s control system theory of self-regulation, continue with self-discrepancy theory (Higgins, 1987), and end with Mandler’s (1998) theory of psychological functionalism.
