Abstract
The neurotoxin l-methyl-4-phenyl-l,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) destroys dopaminergic cells in humans, in vivo animal models and primary dopaminergic cultures. Following a neurotoxic hypothesis of Parkinson’s disease this compound is considered to mimic closely the inherent neurodegeneration.
