Abstract

In general, human genes are differentially expressed in space (different tissues) and time (different age during lifespan, but also different time in every single day), possibly with the exception of those (the so-called “housekeeping genes”) coding for products involved in general functions of all cell types. Many genes produce tissue-specific or stage-specific isoforms, by tissue-specific promoters or by tissue-specific alternative splicing.
