UVB and UVA-1 Effects on HIV Activation
Concern about safety of phototherapy for patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) exists because spread of the infection remains unabated, because HIV infection is associated with skin diseases responsive to phototherapy (including psoriasis, eosinophilic folliculitis, and pruritus), and because ultraviolet (UV) radiation has been shown to activate HIV and promote its proliferation.
