Abstract

Dan Yaron’s long and productive academic career created a significant body of work that shaped and influenced both the research agenda and the evolution of the analytical frameworks of agricultural, natural resources, and environmental economics. Yaron’s work integrated creativity with pragmatism, rigor, and relevance. Though most of Yaron’s work was inspired by problems he encountered while working and living in Israel, he had a unique ability to generalize these problems in lessons that became useful for people from all over the world. He became a world-leading expert on water resource management issues and his agenda and methods advanced new scientific knowledge. As the arsenal of economic tools grew, he took advantage of new techniques and adapted them to provide insights on some of the most important and difficult resource management problems of our time—limited quantity and poor quality of water.
