Abstract

In order to appreciate the structure of real estate education in Canada, it is necessary to have some understanding of two important institutional arrangements. It should first be noted that Canada is a (physically) large country, but with a small population: a country somewhat larger than the USA, but with a population of approximately 33 million. Moreover, approximately two-thirds of the population live in three metropolitan centres (Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver). As a consequence, the cost of developing and offering education packages in real estate must be amortized over a small dispersed population.
