Abstract
Wisdom is an age-old concept transcending Western philosophy and modern psychology. Philosophers and theologians have long discussed the topic, and laypeople from all cultures form opinions about it. Recently, however, theorists from multiple disciplines have developed a renewed interest in wisdom. In contemporary psychology, lifespan developmental psychologists have initiated empirical investigations of this phenomenon. The impressive growth in the psychological literature has progressed to multiple theoretical approaches.
