Abstract
One of the major investments of information technologies today is to help companies embark on e-business. This is partially due to market and business changes, which impose the establishment of fast, continuous and secure interaction between trading partners. Various e-business frameworks, based on alternative standards to express and exchange business documents, have already been proposed. However, one should keep in mind that many companies already use legacy systems and do not feel like re-engineering their existing business applications, whereas others have no experience in using an enterprise system or even doing any kind of business electronically. This paper describes an open information management system that aims at addressing the above issues. The framework proposed is Internet-based, exploits the Extensible Markup Language (XML) and efficiently integrates off-the-shelf applications to manage the interaction between parties using their own, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)-based, enterprise systems and others that only have a connection to the Internet.
