Abstract
Advances in computer processing, memory and networking hardware have made the Internet possible. But many technological possibilities are never actualized, or are actualized only very slowly. One of the main factors catalyzing the explosive growth of the Internet has been the widely perceived prospect of making money via networked computers. As everyone now knows due to the well-publicized ups and downs of technology stocks on the US markets, this is a prospect which is rapidly becoming a reality, though not always in ways that are easy for the rational mind to understand..
