A Fourfold Model of Internet Information Space

  • Chapter
Book cover Creating Internet Intelligence

Abstract

Now that we’ve reviewed both the mind and the Internet from several different perspectives, it’s time to look more carefully at the structural and dynamic mappings between the two. There are interesting mappings, in fact, between the Internet, the human brain, mind in general, and the ecosystem. That these diverse systems are all basically similar is a bold position to uphold, and it’s one that can easily be misunderstood, because it violates the category structure that we consensually impose on reality. Thus, in this chapter, I’m going to spend some time laying philosophical groundwork which will allow the idea of “Net as mind and world” to be understood in a reasonable way.
