Abstract
Historically there is a high rate of failure to breastfeed preterm infants after hospital discharge. The purpose of this study was to determine breastfeeding rates 6 weeks after hospital discharge in 2 groups of infants --Very Low Birth Weight (VLBW, Bt Wt < 1500 gm) and Low Birth Weight (LBW, Bt Wt 1500–2000 gm). A previous study in 1987 showed a 20% breastfeeding rate at 6 weeks after hospital discharge.
