Abstract
A paradigm for creating web or application server based user applications with pure HTML graphical user interfaces out of reusable components is presented. These reusable components are essentially assemblable server-side widgets with HTML generation capability and a high-level API to develop application logic and control the server/browser/user interaction. This paradigm offers various advantages over currently available techniques, and has been implemented at Credit Suisse with Java servlets in a large scale enterprise wide application due to go into production early in 2001.
