Abstract

The free-electron model is well suited to the study of linear and nonlinear x-ray scattering. Here, the relativistic motion of free electrons in electromagnetic fields is described within the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism and nonlinear scattering of electromagnetic waves is interpreted as the re-radiation from these charges in anharmonic motion.
