Abstract
So far, the selection of the node types (PSR or IWS) in the upgradable-PSR (U-PSR) network has only been briefly addressed (see Section 4.5.5). The choice of the set of switching nodes that are implemented as IWS type has an influence on the network capacity and the network cost. If from a cost point of view only a limited number of nodes can be implemented as IWS node (or converted from PSR to IWS), it is desirable to select the subset of switching nodes that achieves the maximum network capacity when implemented as IWS type. In this chapter, algorithms are defined for selecting the locations of IWS nodes in the network. The influence of these selections on the network capacity is investigated, and compared for the different algorithms.
