Abstract

Over the past two decades, ultrasound has emerged as a reliable and accurate method to detect congenital malformations before birth. Fetal echocardiography has achieved early diagnosis of congenital heart defects and has altered the management strategy for many of these lesions. Prenatal imaging and in particular, serial echocardiographic studies have also given us an opportunity to observe the natural history and progression of many cardiac defects in utero, including one of the most critical cardiac lesions, hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS).
