Abstract

This entry deals with promoting the mental health of young children living at home with parents with a mental illness. Therefore, we focus on programs that promote well-being of the young child directly or indirectly by promoting the well-being of the caregiver (typically the mother). The reason for this broadened focus is that improving the care-giver’s well-being will have important positive consequences for the well-being of the young child.

Funding came from NIMH grant numbers R01 MH54321 and R01 MH57495. Kirsten Firminger, Crystal Espinoza, Mari Hashimoto, and Ben Saunders helped find references. and prepare the tables and bibliography.
