Abstract
Plant growth and development involve temporal and spatial expression of the specific genes subsets in response to various physiological and environmental factors mediated by complex signal transduction pathways. A minimal gene regulatory network typically consists of an input signal receptor and a transduction pathway linking the extracellular environment with intracellular targets, a core complex of transacting regulatory proteins and relevant cis-acting DNA sequences, and a subsequent molecular output (RNA and protein) from the target genes. Generally, the result of the activation of such a regulatory pathway is stimulation or repression of expression of the genes coding for structural, metabolic and behavioral capacities of the plant cell. In addition, such networks often include dynamic feedback loops that provide for further regulation of the network architecture and output.
