Abstract

We previously reported about the phagocytic activity of RPE and IPE cells (Sukuragi et al., 2001). We suggested that IPE cells have a phagocytic activity the same as RPE cells and that possibility IPE cells could be utilized for the treatment of patients with AMD as substitution for RPE transplantation (Abe et al., 1999; 2000). However, lysosomal function in IPE cells, which is the final process of phagocytosis, is not well documented.
