Abstract

“Arya” is what the priests who composed the Rgveda called themselves as a people. It is like a Native American calling himself a ‘Navajo,’ or reindeer herders of northern Finland calling themselves .‘Saami.’ The term also occurs as the self-designation of the Iranians in the Avestan literature and in Old Persian inscriptions.
