Anal Fistula

Abstract

Treatment of anal fistula can be difficult for both the patient and the surgeon, as fistulas can be difficult to eliminate even under the best of circumstances. One procedure which surgeons who treat fistulas should be familiar with is the dermal advancement flap. This procedure is associated with a good success rate and avoids division of the anal sphincters. It can be particularly useful in cases with coexisting anal pathology such as anal stenosis. The technique of dermal advancement flap, results, and comparison to other procedures for the treatment of anal fistula are discussed.
