Abstract

Treatment of anal fistula can be a difficult surgical problem. Endorectal advancement flap is a useful tool for the surgeon faced with an anal fistula, as it avoids dividing the sphincter muscles and is associated with a good fistula healing rate. The technique of endorectal advancement flap is presented in detail. The results of this technique are discussed, including its effects on continence, and the relevant literature reviewed. In addition, complex fistulas such as Crohn’s disease or recurrent fistula present particular challenges with which endorectal advancement flap can be helpful; the results in these special situations are examined.
