Abstract

Connecticut is the third smallest state in terms of area, encompassing only 5,500 square miles or 0.15 % of the total US land mass. Its small size makes commuting to the state capital (Hartford) possible from any part of the state. Relatively, Connecticut is the fourth smallest state in the nation. It ranks 37th in terms of water area, with nearly 700 square miles (IPL 2012).
