Abstract
Taking images of the night sky can be extremely rewarding, producing beautiful images that provide a permanent record of what you have seen. Often known as “the dark side of astronomy” to the beginner, even to some seasoned astronomers, astrophotography does appear to be very much a dark art. Mention of stacking images, flat-fielding and light frames seems to talk of a highly complicated process and can send many people scurrying off for cover long before they have even started.
