Abstract

Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune condition that can take many forms. A wide variety of clinical presentations is seen from childhood through adulthood. Young children present commonly with diarrhea, whereas this presentation diminishes among older children and adolescents. Diarrhea again becomes an important mode of presentation in adulthood. Nonclassical presentations occur frequently in both adults and children, and many patients with few symptoms or asymptomatic disease are diagnosed after screening due to associated conditions or family members with the disease. The symptoms of CD are evolving and vary geographically. Awareness of the many manifestations that CD may have is critical to rendering early diagnoses.
