Healthcare and Biomedical Technology in the 21st Century

Abstract

It is not always immediately appreciated that the human body and whatever devices are used to treat its diseases are made from materials. And therefore, a study and an understanding of the behavior and characteristics of materials can provide insights into failures of the body’s tissues, as well as clues regarding the desirable properties of materials used for tissue replacement.

“Mathematics (and materials science, our considered addition), rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty.”

Bertrand Russell
