Abstract

Performance of a comprehensive ultrasound evaluation of the male genitalia requires an organized approach in order to assure that pathology is not missed. In addition, the novice as well as the experienced sonographer is concerned that complete image documentation is obtained for each study. This chapter describes one sonographer’s view of what a complete ultrasound evaluation of the male genitalia should include. My expectation is, that as the Urologist becomes experienced, changes to this protocol will occur. I have incorporated in these protocols the requirements of the AIUM for Urology Practice Accreditation. I have included a brief description of documentation for each ultrasound study followed by a detailed explanation of what this sonographer feels a focused urologic ultrasound examination of the male genitalia should entail.
