Abstract

The operative site was checked and verified. IV antibiotics were administered and a tourniquet applied on the thigh. Under (type of anesthesia) and the patient in the supine position with a bump under the ipsilateral buttock the (side) lower extremity was prepped and draped.

An elliptical incision was made over the PIP joint excising the thickened skin. The incision was deepened and the extensor tendon was cut and the PIP joint capsule opened. Care was taken to protect the neurovascular bundle. The head of the proximal phalanx was identified.
