Abstract
The role of nutritional supplements in enhancing male fertility is a subject of substantial interest for patients and medical practitioners. Nutritional supplements are presumed to have antioxidant activity that may protect sperm integrity, enhance motility, and/or improve sperm production. Published data on these supplements are very limited. Most studies involve treatment with multiple agents. A recent Cochran meta-analysis suggests that supplements may enhance male fertility potential. A critical review of this report and the potential clinical role of supplements are provided. Existent data do not allow clinicians to make a rational recommendation of whether a male interested in enhancing fertility should take supplements, or what agent or dose to take.
