Abstract

Division of labour is a crucial characteristic of living systems. In (M,R)-systems, the class of formal systems that are the defining relational models of organisms, the internal processes are functionally divided into two types of components, metabolism (that which materially entails) and repair (that which functionally entails). The reader is referred to Chapter 11 of ML for a review.
