Abstract
In 1844, the German astronomer Friedrich Wilhelm August Argelander (1799–1875) issued this plea: “Could we be aided in this matter by the cooperation of a goodly number of amateurs, we would perhaps in a few years be able to discover laws in these apparent irregularities.”
