Abstract
Toxic and drug-induced myopathies as a group may represent the most common form of myopathy with an estimated prevalence of more than 2,000 per 100,000 population in the Western Hemisphere. Patients with these myopathies often present to physicians who do not have the expertise of neuromuscular specialists. Failure to recognize the often-iatrogenic nature of these disorders and thus continue to expose the patient to the drug or toxin can unnecessarily prolong morbidity and lead to potentially fatal outcomes.
