Abstract

During the past few years, researchers have witnessed a technical revolution that has dramatically changed the way of doing research in molecular biology. The gene-by-gene studies have been widely replaced by whole genome studies, and both basic and translational areas of research are increasingly getting interested in the role of epigenetics. As a result, epic efforts to develop integrative analysis of biological information keep trying to shed light on the functional and molecular interactions among genome, epigenome, environment, and disease. This is becoming especially relevant for complex diseases as asthma or atopy, which need to be understood as multifactorial diseases.
