Abstract
Over the past 20 years, a tremendous amount of time and resources have been spent on developing evidence-based interventions to facilitate return-to-work and prevent work disability. However, an important challenge in implementing these interventions resides in the fact that replicating them requires identifying their effective components. This chapter addresses this particular issue by first introducing the reader to methods and concepts used in the identification of core components of evidence-based interventions. Then, it presents a summary of the latest evidence on core components of intervention to facilitate work resumption for workers affected by two common health problems: musculoskeletal disorders and mental illnesses. Finally, it presents the specific research gaps that should be addressed to facilitate dissemination and implementation of evidence-based return-to-work interventions in a broader effort to reduce the burden of work disability worldwide.
