Abstract
Sergei Pavlovich Korolev was born on December 30, 1906 (Julian calendar) or January 12, 1907 (Gregorian calendar) to a family of teachers- Pavel Yakovlevich Korolev and Maria Nikolaievna Moskalenko – in Zhitomir, Ukraine. The family moved to Kiev on June 28, 1908. When his parents separated in 1910, Sergei lived with his mother's family in Nejin near Chernygov, Ukraine.
