Mental Health Practitioner's Guide to HIV/AIDS

Abstract

The burden of HIV-related illnesses and deaths has been increasing ever since its discovery in 1981. HIV-infected patients are at an increased risk for cancers due to the immunosuppression associated with it. They may experience significant mental trauma due to both illness and social stigma attached to it.
