Abstract

Image acquisition includes the tasks necessary not only to obtain accurate data, but also to keep track of that data and maintain its traceability to the specific sources and equipment settings used to obtain it. The data formats used to store the data help when going back to and understanding the circumstances under which the data was selected. It is important to create and adhere to a disciplined approach when storing data, naming files, and generally organizing data. In addition, the quality of that data is influenced by the quality of the processing techniques. This chapter discusses various programs that are available to process the data and also to calibrate it. A detailed discussion of the calibration process is also presented, including the mathematics involved. Although the calibration process is somewhat tedious, it plays a very important role in obtaining the most accurate results possible.
