Abstract

This chapter provides an introduction to the topics covered in the book and gives a review of relevant past studies of natural convective heat transfer from wide and narrow vertical and inclined flat plates. A discussion of why the heat transfer rate from narrow plates is higher than that from wide plates, of the effect of plate inclination on the heat transfer rate from both wide and narrow flat plates, and a discussion of the effect of the presence of an adjacent flat plate on the heat transfer rate is given. A review of the topics covered in each of the chapters in the book is also provided.
