Abstract
The use of mesh in gynecologic surgery, as in hernia operations, is widespread. This chapter provides an overview of indications for graft use in gynecologic surgery and, specifically, a detailed review of synthetic materials and their safety and effectiveness. This chapter will conclude with a discussion of concomitant procedures between hernia surgeons and gynecologists and offer recommendations for when it is appropriate for hernia surgeons to place mesh to repair a symptomatic hernia during a gynecologic procedure.
