Abstract

In China, the research on the future mobile communication systems has been set up since 2001. The FuTURE program, which is supported by the National 863 Projects, aims at the development of the 4th generation (4G) mobile communication systems, and it includes two branches: FDD and TDD. As one of the two chief architects of the Chinese national 4G (4th generation) wireless communication system, supported by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the author led the Chinese 4G TDD working group comprising of four Chinese top-lever universities, and established a Group Cell trial network adopted by the Chinese national 4G program in 2006 mainly to test the performance of Group Cell architecture.
