Abstract

Thin 2024-T3 aluminum alloy panels were subjected to close-in blast loading. Panels of various thicknesses were tested against different blast loadings and approach distances. A finite elemental close-in blast simulation model (LSDYNA ALE method) was first calibrated with the experimental data, and then it was used to predict damage behaviors at different blast loadings and approach distances. Simulation results were comparable to the experimental data.
